Como overview

Como Travel Guide
The popular tourist destination of Como is the town found at the southern end of majestic Lake Como. Its position as a gateway to the lake and also to the Rhaetian Alps has seen modern tourism descend in droves, but the town itself hides numerous museums, churches, gardens and works of art. Historic architecture is well preserved at the Duomo, the Villa Olmo, the Sant’Abbondio Basilica and Tempio Voltiano public gardens. Como was also the birthplace of numerous notable Italian historic figures, including the two Pliny’s, scientist Alessandro Volta and Pope Innocent XI. The rambling shorefront contains countless day-trip villages and boat-rides, most likely on gaudy steamers, while the Isola Comacina rises alone from the lake. Only an hour from Milan, Como is in danger of an elite takeover, with the high society descending mainly on weekends. No relation to the crooner Perry.
