Ravenna, which is actually an island that is connected to the Adriatic via canal, is located in northeastern Italy. Like nearly every city in Italy there is an abundance of architecture and art, and you'll never believe it, good food. Ravenna contains eight Christian monuments which have managed to make the World Heritage list, so if you are into old churches, you won't be disappointed. These ancient Christian sites are known most for their stunning mosaics, many of which depict Jesus. Several famous writers including Oscar Wilde and Lord Byron used Ravenna as a setting for their work and it has also been a part of several famous Italian films.
