Trapani overview

Although a definite step up from unimpressive Palermo nearby, Trapani is perhaps not the best place to be based when visiting Sicily as it is right over in the northwest of the island. For those into ancient architecture and religion, however, it could be considered a must-see as it is home to many stunning churches from the days of the Renaissance. The 14th century Maria Santissima Annunziata basilica is one of the highlights, plus there is a load of places to discern including ancient inns. Trapani is also a launch point for visits to Sardinia and there is a small airport in nearby Monreale with flights from around Italy and select cities in the EU.
