Turin overview

Turin (Torino) sits under the watchful eye of the southern arm of the Italian Alps in the northwest of the country. It’s a bit of a large, industrial place and is not your typical-looking Italian city, yet has plenty of heritages to discern. For one, Turin is home to elaborate cathedrals and churches, one of which contains the fabled Turin Shroud; that linen cloth that is said to bear the image of Jesus. It resides in the 15th century Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, although the shroud itself is seldom put on display and then only by papal decree. Turin has the obligatory collection of cafes, ice-cream parlours and pizzerias and trips into the Italian Alps are possible year-round.
