Verona overview

Although Verona has always been on the map, Veneto’s provincial capital was made famous after Shakespeare penned Romeo and Juliet, which was based in Verona. Although the city has cashed in on this somewhat and it is unbelievably touristic, Verona does have a very attractive old core and is loaded with ancient monuments. To save money, it is best to buy the Verona Card is you’re heavily into sightseeing as it covers many of the top Verona sights. Must-sees include Juliet’s House on Via Cappello (no connection with Shakespeare), several theatres, bridges, squares, and cathedrals, and one or two lofty towers. There is also flashy shopping to be had on the Golden Mile and no end of caf?s and ice-cream parlours. Get in via nearby Catullo Airport.
